Acupuncture: a role in neuro-protection & neuro-rehabilitation
Whilst Western Medical Acupuncture (WMA) has been used for many years with a lot of time and effort devoted to the study of WMA in pain research, it is relatively recently that the research has begun to take a closer look at its effect on inflammatory pathways.
This has exciting implications for many illnesses and diseases, not limited to neuro-inflammation, however this and the impact that this has on chronic neuro-degenerative disorders, is the topic for today’s session.
The effects of acupuncture and how this may complement neurorehabilitation and the impacts it may have on quality of life for patients will be discussed. Whilst the research evidence is beginning to emerge in this area, it is important that we document and also pay heed to the clinical evidence.
